Itinera engaged in the enhancement of the Orte-Falconara railway line: works officially underway

Another step forward in the enhancement of the Orte-Falconara railway line. On March 26, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Group), the client of the project, together with the Temporary Grouping of Companies Eteria Consorzio Stabile and Salcef, officially commenced excavation of the Chiaradovo tunnel, a key intervention within the Genga–Serra San Quirico section. The excavation was carried out using what is technically known as the “first blast,” which involves the controlled use of explosives to break through the first 2.5 meters of a total length of 267 meters. The project includes the construction of a new 8.9 km railway alignment, with more than half of the route running through tunnels.
As a member of Eteria Consorzio Stabile, Itinera plays a key role in delivering this nationally significant infrastructure.

This project is a major step toward sustainable mobility, with a total investment of approximately €545 million for the Genga–Serra San Quirico section, €438 million of which is financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The doubling of the PM 228–Castelplanio section will significantly enhance railway mobility, increasing speeds up to 200 km/h and reducing travel times—15 minutes less on the Rome-Ancona route and 10 minutes less on the Rome-Perugia route.

Itinera reaffirms its commitment to developing strategic infrastructure to strengthen the national railway system, contributing to more efficient, sustainable, and innovative transport within a territory of crucial importance to the Italian economy.
