09 Dec 2022 TELT: excavation begins for the Lyon-Turin tunnel entrance on the French side
On December 8, TELT, the public promoter responsible for the construction and management of the cross-border section of the future freight and passenger railway line Turin-Lyon, held a press conference for the beginning of the first excavation works at the base tunnel entrance on the French side, for the stretch Lot 3 – TELT operating site no. 8.
The event marked the completion of the preparation and installation work that began in December 2021, giving the start of excavation. In fact, the excavation works were started last week, on the date immediately following the anniversary of St. Barbara, patron saint of miners, bomb squads, firefighters and those working in tunnel excavations. Following this symbolic anniversary, an important moment for the workers in this field and the entire team involved in the project, the first dig and laying of the first arch took place.
In a few days the excavation of the second tube will begin. The total length of the two tubes will be 5.678 km, of which 1,018 m will be built under a tunnel roof and more than 1,000 arches will be installed.
The work, awarded in 2021 to the grouping of IMPLENIA (group leader), ITINERA, NGE and RIZZANI DE ECCHER, is part of the central connection of the Mediterranean corridor of RTE-T railway network, whose main work is the 57.5 km at Moncenisio base.
